Last month, a number of our bravest members of staff undertook an unusual challenge to raise money for the Movember movement, which sets out to change the face of men's health by creating awareness and funding research into prostate cancer and male depression - see http://www.movember.com.au/ - and raised over £1500 in the process.
The challenge thrown down at SHH was to grow strange and unusual facial hair - and it worked! The results - from those man enough (and with tolerant-enough other halves!) to last the month - spanned the full range of looks from sleazy bikers to lumberjacks...
According to SHH architect Guy Matheson, 'We're passionate about the state of men's health. Men's average life expectancy is 6 years less than that of women. Prostate cancer causes around the same number of deaths per annum as breast cancer but has a much lesser level of general awareness and, in the UK, men are three times as likely to take their own lives as women. It's time to act and we decided that a month of unusual hairiness would be a very in-your-face way to get everyone talking about it.'
