SHH Senior Designer Helen Hughes was a guest this month at Number Ten Downing Street, at a reception hosted by Prime Minister Gordon Brown.  The event was held ‘to celebrate and thank the broad range of individuals in the business, education and community sectors who have contributed to the work of the Talent and Enterprise Taskforce, since it was set up in September 2007’.

Helen was invited to represent SHH because of the company’s involvement with the MyPlace initiative, a government-backed project aiming at revitalising around seventy youth centres around the UK.  SHH is re-designing and re-branding an existing centre in Bath, one of fifteen ‘MyPlace’ projects under the overall direction of The Sorrell Foundation, a charitable organisation set up by designers Sir John and Lady Frances Sorrell in order to encourage and promote design in and for schools.  SHH had previously worked with The Sorrell Foundation on The Hub – a school canteen and IT area at The Acland Burghley secondary school in north London (attended, coincidentally, by the Prime Minister’s wife, Sarah Brown) – as well as on two further school dining area projects this year with The School Food Trust.  We were honoured to be the design company selected by The Sorrell Foundation to represent this particular initiative at the Downing Street event.
